New Orleans Pelicans: Zion Williamson is the reason to trade for Paul George

I’ve often made the argument that Zion Williamson is the reason you make a trade for an established star.

Paul George is essentially the perfect player to put next to Zion, as he is an all-world defender who can cover a couple of spots, is a great 3-point shooter and can be the number two option on a title contender.

If the Pels could attach Bledsoe’s contract, they’d be able to add another free agent (maybe re-sign Josh Hart) to help the defense and could completely change the franchise.

The New Orleans Pelicans have the third-most draft assets in the league, so don’t really care if they have to give up a late lottery pick, so this would be an upgrade at the league’s most important position.

With Zion Williamson’s history of injuries and the lingering fact that he could leave, the Pels’ window to win is now, they don’t have time to wait.

Paul George would be enough to push the Pelicans into the playoffs and the Pels would still have a few of his prime years left to build the right team around him and Zion Williamson.

Ultimately I do not think this trade will happen, but it’s an interesting question: Would you trade Ingram for a star who gives the Pelicans a chance to win now?
