New Orleans Pelicans: Anthony Davis getting new nicknames on Lakers

Fans of the New Orleans Pelicans have called Anthony Davis a lot of things over the past few years, most of which are not fit to print.

He was always A.D. in NOLA but started earning some other nicknames after he faked injuries and forced his way out of New Orleans, which didn’t sit well with a lot of fans.

Davis never had much success in the Big Easy, demanded a trade and got it. The New Orleans Pelicans are happy to build around the package and Davis got his ring with LeBron in Los Angeles.

But after suffering yet another injury in the playoffs, fans in LA and media around the country are starting to turn on Anthony Davis and he is getting some new nicknames in the process.

Fans have come up with some great nicknames for Davis since his injury, even comparing him to Mr. Glass with the accompanying meme:

I have also heard him called “Day to Davis,” “Disney,” and last night Charles Barkley got in on the action, adding “Street Clothes” to the lexicon.

This seems slightly unfair given that injuries are not a player’s fault, but Anthony Davis is hardly going to get any sympathy out of Pelicans’ fans who had to watch this for way too long.

I’m definitely not trying to celebrate an injury, and I hope Davis returns at some point during this series, but after taking flak from Lakers’ trolls all season, it is nice to see them get a taste of their own medicine.

So Anthony Davis is truly Day-to Davis right now, a guy in street clothes who might end up at ADisney next week if the Lakers can’t come back in this series.

Fans of the New Orleans Pelicans can take some comfort in knowing that Lakers’ fans are starting to feel the same way we did about Davis, though they at least got a ring out of it.
