New Orleans Pelicans: 3 Reasons to re-sign Lonzo Ball

The New Orleans Pelicans are coming off of another disappointing season; however, the improvement of Lonzo Ball was one of the bright spots of the year.

New Orleans finished the season in 11th place in the Western Conference with a 31-41 record. The franchise suffered another disappointing season and missed out on the play-in tournament again.

Surprisingly, Pelicans general manager David Griffin and ownership decided to part ways with Stan Van Gundy after one season. Whether the firing of Van Gundy was justifiable or needed, this decision could hurt the young roster.

New Orleans Pelicans: Which players are part of the Pels’ core?

The current team’s nucleus consists of Lonzo Ball, Zion Williamson, and Brandon Ingram. The makeup of the current roster has the talent to make the post-season. Obviously, the team is being built around Williamson who had an impressive season averaging a career-high 27 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.

Often Williamson and Ingram receive most of the spotlight but this season Ball elevated his play. He averaged 14.6 points (career-high), 5.7 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and shot career-high 37.8 percent from the three-point line.

Needless to say, Ball’s name remained in trade rumors until the deadline passed in March. But for New Orleans to take the next step, their roster should include Ball.
