New Orleans Pelicans: Lonzo Ball is an unselfish passer

The first reason why the New Orleans Pelicans need to retain Ball, who is set to be a restricted free agent this summer, is because of his pass-first mentality. In today’s league, pass-first point guards are a rare commodity and are becoming frowned upon.

‘Zo oftentimes lacks aggression when it comes to scoring but he understands his role and likes to get his teammates involved first. During his time at UCLA, he was able to use his athleticism and size to exploit more mismatches.

Considering the fact that Williamson and Ingram are the primary scorers they are going to need a guard who can pass the ball effectively and help them get into their sweet spots. Not to mention Ball does an outstanding job of pushing the fast-break, running the offense, and getting his teammates involved.

In Ball’s first two seasons he averaged over five assists per game which is something the team needs from their point guard.

The New Orleans Pelicans need a guard who doesn’t dominate the ball or need plays called for him. As the team continues to gel together their pick-and-roll will game will become lethal.

Lonzo’s pass-first mentality helps this team remain balanced on offense. Not to mention it allows everyone more touches.
