New Orleans Pelicans: Lonzo Ball has a high basketball I.Q.

The next reason New Orleans needs to keep Ball is because of his basketball IQ. The 23-year-old understands the importance of pace and game situations.

Lonzo is a strong passer who hits his teammates in stride and makes sure that the pass arrives early. Last season the team lost a lot of their games in the final minutes of the fourth quarter due to poor execution. However, the team did eventually improve on resetting the offense if the play breaks down.

Despite the team’s overall record, they have good chemistry and players love playing with LB. He is starting to become more aggressive in the half-court when his teammates are having an off night or not open.

The California native never shoots his team out of a lead or into a deficit but he still needs to improve on being aggressive and calling his own number.

But Ball is only 23 and has time to learn and continue to develop. With all things considered he has never had free reign to lead a team. He was drafted to the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron came over during his sophomore season, which resulted in a halt regarding his development as a point guard.

This season Ball shared the backcourt with Eric Bledsoe who oftentimes struggled on the offensive side and dominates the ball. If the Pelicans allow Ball to be the primary point guard it will help his confidence and development and allow him to use his high I.Q. and innate feel for the game.
