New Orleans Pelicans head coaching search: Sam Cassell is overdue for an opportunity

Sam Cassell is a name that gets mentioned when a coaching slot is vacant, but oftentimes he is overlooked.

The Baltimore native brings any franchise experience, toughness, and skill. He also has ample experience as an assistant coach and he continues to develop top-tier talent.

Cassell has coached alongside the late Flip Saunders, Randy Whitman, and Doc Rivers. While working with elite coaches he has also helped develop John Wall, Bradley Beal, Blake Griffin, and more.

Cassell is a perfect fit for the New Orleans Pelicans because he is a players coach, a developmental coach, and a leader. Growing up in Baltimore provides people with a third eye so to speak.

The city of Baltimore is known for its all-around intense environment for sports. All athletes from Baltimore learn to adapt to any environment and learn to have mental and physical toughness.

The Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach is also a three-time champion and knows what it takes to get to the next level.

Even if New Orleans does not hire Cassell he at least deserves an interview considering recent coaching selections.
