New Orleans Pelicans: Trading for Chris Boucher of the Toronto Raptors

On paper, Boucher is a nice fit with the New Orleans Pelicans and Zion Williamson.

Zion needs to be surrounded by bigs who can shoot and protect the rim and Boucher can do both.

In fact, he was one of the only players in the entire league to block 1.5 shots while hitting 1.5 from long range.

Boucher is 6-foot-9 but has a huge wingspan that allows him to play much bigger, so he can handle the tough defensive assignments that the Pelicans would prefer Zion Williamson avoid.

Boucher blocked nearly two shots per game for the Raptors in just over 24 minutes per game, so he could provide some of the rim protection that the Pelicans lack from their front court.

Boucher is 28-years-old and still in his prime, so the Pelicans wouldn’t be getting a washed veteran, and he is only making just over $7 million next season, so he would fit into the Pelicans’ budget.

There are a lot of things to like about Chris Boucher on the New Orleans Pelicans, but there are better reasons to run away from this trade.
