Pelicans draft picks: NBA Draft prospect, Jared Butler

Jared Butler has a few red flags in regards to his size and injury history, but he is a winner, a leader and a guy who can shoot the 3-point shot, which are qualities the Pelicans could use.

The Pels obviously have a lot of moving parts and could have a radically different roster depending on what they do with Lonzo Ball and their newfound cap space.

They also have Kira Lewis Jr. already, so taking another point guard might seem foolish. He and Butler are very different players and could even work as a tandem off the bench.

Butler has the potential to be an elite on-the-ball defender and shot 41.6 percent from long-range on 6.2 attempts per game, all things the Pelicans could use.

Butler isn’t the quickest but he is strong and shifty in transition where he can finish at the rim or set up teammates.

He’s a smart player who might be good enough to draft here even though he might not be the best roster fit for what the Pelicans need.
