New Orleans Pelicans NBA Draft Grades: Pick No. 35- Herbert Jones

A. . Forward. New Orleans Pelicans. HERBERT JONES

Herbert Jones is another guy I was hugely excited to get, as I didn’t think he’d last to pick 35 for the Pelicans.

I had Jones ranked as the best defender in the second round, a guy who has the length and athleticism to be disruptive on the perimeter as a defender.

He averaged over two steals and a block per game at Alabama and as a senior, he is another guy who should be able to come in and compete for minutes right away.

He is the perfect complement to Ingram, as he will do all of the little things, take on the tough defensive assignments and not need the ball in his hands to be effective.

He’s not a great 3-point shooter, but isn’t terrible either, so some work with Fred Vinson could turn him into another valuable 3-and-D wing who spread the floor.

The Pelicans came into this NBA Draft with a huge need for shooting and defense and they managed to get both, which is why this was such a huge night for New Orleans.
