New Orleans Pelicans NBA free agency: Dennis Schroder

Schroder reportedly turned down a 4 year/ $84 million extension with the Lakers and he may end up regretting it.

So far he’s had no big offers but teams probably know what it will take to get him, which is similar to what Lonzo Ball just got from the Bulls.

If that’s the case, I can’t see the Pelicans going this direction or they would have just kept Lonzo Ball.

Schroder would be an interesting fit and would give the Pels a penetrating guard in the starting lineup. A five-man lineup of Schroder, NAW, Zion, BI and Valanciunas has some appeal, but I don’t think David Griffin had him in mind when he decided to pass on Lonzo.

This would eat up most of the Pels’ remaining cap space, and while they might be marginally better with Schroder, it’s a hefty price to pay for a guy who probably won’t move the needle.

I can’t see this one.
