New Orleans Pelicans: Players as modern musical artists
Brandon Ingram: Bryson Tiller
Like Brandon Ingram, Bryson Tiller is a person who oozes undeniable talent. He burst onto the scene at 22 years old, the equivalent of being a top-draft pick in the music industry.
His R&B sound would’ve been effective in any year of music the last 30 years, and it’s why he gained a following so quickly. His 2015 album “T R A P S O U L” had a pair of top 30 hits, and it seemed as if he was on his way to superstardom.
Tiller’s path is similar to Brandon Ingram’s entering the NBA. Ingram was the third overall recruit in the 2015 class and chose basketball powerhouse Duke to further his education. With the Blue Devils, Ingram began to show flashes of a player that would easily translate to the next level.
His versatility was eye-opening and what made him stand out. At 6-foot-8 and eye-catching athleticism to match, it’s understandable why some were calling him “Baby KD.”
The recognition came along as well, racking up ACC Rookie Of the Year in 2016. He was an honorable mention All-American and was catapulting himself into the conversation for the number one overall pick.
Ingram ended up falling to two, and many expected him to lead the Lakers into their post-Kobe era. That didn’t exactly happen, and Ingram failed to make a sizable impact on a bad Lakers team.
Tiller and Ingram once were pegged to be at the forefront of their industries for the next decade. For a long time, that take was looking bleak for both men.
Yet, age was on both of their sides. Ingram was dealt with New Orleans Pelicans as a focal point in the Anthony Davis trade and has seemingly come into his own. His efficiency and scoring took a massive leap and have turned him into an All-Star caliber player.
Tiller dropped a new album this past year: “A N N I V E R S A R Y”; which had great critical success. It sparked a year in which Tiller was a part of 4 top 100 hits and is back in the conversation for best young artists.
Both of them are still in the conversation to be superstars, despite the roller coaster ride it’s taken to get to this point.
