Jrue Holiday is no longer a member of the New Orleans Pelicans, but his heart is still with the city and the entire state of Louisiana.
Holiday is one of several former Pelicans who are teaming up to try and help after the state was devastated by Hurricane Ida.
Holiday, who is currently playing for the Bucks, has joined forces with Langston Galloway (who last played with the Suns), Frank Jackson (Pistons) and Jahlil Okafor (recently released by the Nets) to donate supplies to some of the areas hardest hit by the storm.
New Orleans Pelicans: Ex-Pels are trying to help after Hurricane Ida
Holiday will be making donations through the Jrue and Lauren Holiday Fund, which has continued doing great work in New Orleans even after Holiday was traded.
Holiday’s work is why he continues to be beloved in New Orleans and why his jersey should be hanging from the rafters, for what he has done both on and off the court.
Galloway, who is a native of Baton Rouge, is working through the Langston Galloway Foundation, which also does important work in Louisiana.
Look, NBA players are filthy rich, and in my opinion, the entire league should be doing more to help when there is a catastrophe, but they don’t have to do it, so seeing these ex-Pelicans doing more than a token gesture is meaningful and will hopefully inspire others to get involved.
Much of the state is still without power, so 200 generators is a real thing, and I hope other former Pelicans will get involved with the efforts to help out.
The city of New Orleans obviously made an impression on these players, so it is good to see them giving back.
