New Orleans Pelicans best defenders #4: Trey Murphy III

Again, listing a rookie as one of the team’s best defenders is not a good sign, but Trey Murphy III has the tools to be a lockdown defender in the NBA.

He’s got an tremendous wingspan and the desire to be good on defense, which is why he transferred to Virginia to finish out his college career, a team known for its defenders.

How many future draft picks do the Pelicans have now?. light. Related Story

Murphy III flashed his versatility in the Summer League, defending everyone from shooting guards to centers and held his own against all of them.

The Pels are going to put a lot on his shoulders defensively next season and I think he’s ready for the challenge.

New Orleans Pelicans best defenders #3: Herb Jones

If Jones could just shoot the 3-ball at a higher rate he would have been a first-round draft pick, as the guy was one of the best college defenders in the country last season.

Like Murphy III, Jones has the size and length to defend multiple positions, and he also has a high motor and I.Q. which reminds me a little of Draymond Green.

If Jones can just shoot at a decent rate, he will get run with the second unit next season and I look forward to potentially watching he, Murphy III and Louzada flying around, getting steals, blocks and run outs on the other end.
