The New Orleans Pelicans have one of the best young scorers in the league in Brandon Ingram, who has averaged 23.8 points per game in each of his first two seasons with the team.

The Pels do not have a long history as a team, so their franchise records are mostly held by a handful of guys. Chris Paul and Anthony Davis are at or near the top in nearly every category, with David West and Jrue Holiday appearing on many statistical leaders lists as well.

With such a limited team history that only dates back to the 2002-3 season, it’s not hard to climb the all-time rankings.

But it is still surprising how high Brandon Ingram already is in some of the categories, and where he will probably rank by the end of next season.

New Orleans Pelicans: Brandon Ingram on Pels’ all-time lists

Here are few statistics that surprised me:

  • Brandon Ingram is 1st in points per game at 23.8, just ahead of Anthony Davis at 23.7
  • 7th all-time in minutes per game (34.1) for the Pelicans. Just ahead of Jrue Holiday (33.5) and Trevor Ariza (34.1).
  • 8th in total free throws made with 594. Anthony Davis leads with 2,572
  • 4th in free-throw percentage at 86.3 percent. J.J. Redick is 1st with 90.5 percent
  • 10th overall in points

This last statistic surprised me the most, as Brandon Ingram has only been on the New Orleans Pelicans for two seasons and played 123 games.

Anthony Davis is the franchise leader with 11,059 total points, but after that there is a big drop off to the next guy.

If Brandon Ingram has even an average season next year he’s going to move up to 5th on the all-time Pelicans’ scoring list, behind AD, David West, Chris Paul and Jrue Holiday.

That is good company to be in, and if Ingram continues his consistent scoring he might be at the top of this list before his career is over with the Pelicans.

Of course there is another player in Zion Williamson who will have something to say about that and these two could very well be 1-2 on the all-time Pelicans scoring list if things go right.
