How to watch the New Orleans Pelicans pre-season opener
The New Orleans Pelicans are back on the court Monday night, as they start their pre-season slate with a matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves at 7 P.M Central. Although a game like this doesn’t matter, it’s still a must-watch for the die-hard Pels fans out there.
This off-season has been as turbulent and messy, with many looking down on the franchise. The rumor mill never seemed to stop turning out new reports, and it created a black cloud over the franchise. Many, including myself, thought the Pelicans would be beyond this phase as a team, but this off-season proves they have more work to do. Usually, the best way to change the narrative off the court is to play well on it.
The pre-season allows coach Willie Green to tinker with lineups and rotations, something valuable for a first-year head coach. Green insinuated that there are spots in the rotation that are “wide open.” With that the case, it will be interesting to see how big strong camp and pre-seasons are in determining the Pelican’s minute structure by the start of the regular season.
Much like the Summer League, the actual results of the games mean little to nothing. Player performance is paramount, and fans should view that as the central focus. Rookies such as Trey Murphy III and Herb Jones will get their first opportunity to play alongside their teammates in a game setting and square up against NBA-caliber talent. As impressive as they were in Summer League, many of those players fail to make rosters. Playing well, even in a low-stake game such as this, is a different ball game.
Where to Stream the New Orleans Pelicans Pre-Season Opener
Stream: NBA League Pass/YouTube TV (with NBA Pass)
The NBA is exercising a monopoly on the pre-season this year, with most games only available on NBATV or NBA League Pass. If not able to afford either service, Pelican Debrief will be the best source for news and analysis regarding this and every game all season long.
Basketball is finally back, and this season should be a treat. The Pelicans have talent in spades but need to put all the other pieces in place to get the most out of what they have at their disposal.
