The New Orleans Pelicans dropped their first preseason game to the Minnesota Timberwolves but won’t have to wait long for another chance.

The Pels play the Orlando Magic tonight and will look to build off the positives from their first preseason loss.

The Pelicans did not shoot the ball well, mostly because they weren’t getting great looks in the half court. A lot of this comes down to the absence of Zion Williamson, who will be the focal point of the Pels’ offense in the regular season.

But there are some tweaks the Pelicans can make that will show they learned from some of their mistakes in the first game.

New Orleans Pelicans: The Pels need to cut the turnovers

Yes, it is preseason, so of course the game was sloppy at times, which is to be expected, especially with so many young players and new faces on the roster.

But turnovers are a problem the Pelicans have had for the last two seasons, so seeing them cough it up 21 times was painful, even in a preseason game.

Part of the reason the Pelicans’ defense has been so terrible the last two years is that they give up too many easy buckets off turnovers, which often leads to dunks or uncontested 3-point shots as they did against the Timberwolves.

I am sure this is something Willie Green will address throughout the preseason, as taking care of the ball is going to be paramount for the New Orleans Pelicans if they want to improve this season.
