The New Orleans Pelicans’ offense is terrible!

Here’s the thing: If you build your team around one player and that player is out with an injury,  things are going to go south quickly.

The Pelicans added guys like Devonte’ Graham, Trey Murphy III and Jonas Valanciunas precisely because of how they would fit with Zion, so with him out, we aren’t really seeing them in the roles they were brought here to play.

The Pelicans have shot the ball well so far, but have turned it over so many times that it hasn’t mattered. You aren’t going to win many games when you turn it over 30 times and take seven fewer shots than your opponent, as the New Orleans Pelicans did last night against Minnesota.

The bright side is that Brandon Ingram and Jonas Valanciunas are scoring, Graham has shot the ball well in 2-of-3 games and NAW looks ready to make leap as a player.

But none of those things are going to matter until the Pelicans get Zion Williamson back, as their entire offense is built around him and needs his gravity to make it work.

It has been a very disappointing start for the New Orleans Pelicans, but it’s still too early to overreact or give up on the season, as we have yet to really see what this team can do at full strength and there have been some positives even in defeat.
