New Orleans Pelicans: New city edition uniforms don’t represent the city
Fans of the New Orleans Pelicans have been waiting for something to be excited about in the 2021-22 season.
After a miserable start with Zion Williamson out with injury, it has been pretty gloomy in the Pelicans’ universe.
Things didn’t get much better yesterday, as the Pels announced Zion would be evaluated again in 2-3 weeks and set no timeline for his return.
Not only that, but Nike dropped the new NBA city edition uniforms and New Orleans was once again one of the worst of the group.
It’s not so much that the uniform is bad, as it’s actually too boring to be bad, it’s just that it has no flavor, took no risks and does not represent the rich culture of New Orleans. At all.
New Orleans Pelicans: The Pels need to use local artists for NBA city edition uniforms
New Orleans is one of the most culturally rich cities in the world, which is why fans were disappointed to see this as the uniform:

I nearly died of cringe listening to that song, so can we start there? This is the music you used to represent New Orleans? Shameful.
The uniforms aren’t much better, as they are just bland remixes of the home whites with no big changes, cool colorways or really anything that screams New Orleans.
This is the city of Mardi Gras, jazz music, voodoo, unbelievable food and the best dancers in the world, but you would think it was Dubuque, Iowa from looking at these boring jerseys.
In what has been a hugely disappointing season so far, I think fans of the New Orleans Pelicans were hoping the team would finally take a risk with their NBA city edition uniforms and not just crank out the same bland fit.
New Orleans is filled with amazing artists who would love a shot at designing something that actually fits the city, so I hope the Pelicans lean into that in the future and get a uniform that doesn’t suck the life out of one of the world’s great cities.
