Things can’t get much worse for David Griffin and the New Orleans Pelicans. Or can they?

Griffin has taken a lot of heat this season for the way he has handled Zion Williamson’s injury, as he either intentionally misled fans about the timeline for Zion’s return or didn’t have all of the information himself.

Either way, Griffin looked foolish sitting in front of media saying Zion would “be back for the regular season” only to say a few days later “I didn’t say WHEN, he’d be back.” Like I said, either he was lying or didn’t have all of the information, either way, it’s not a good look for the VP of Basketball Operations.

The team is off to a 1-11 start, and even though they have yet to play at full strength, some people are already calling for Griffin’s job, as he has failed to construct a winning roster even though he was handed a haul in the Anthony Davis trade.

The call for Griffin’s job is going to get even louder after last night’s home loss to the OKC Thunder, especially after a report that heaped even more embarrassment onto Griffin’s head.

New Orleans Pelicans: David Griffin reportedly had an altercation with Alvin Gentry

According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, David Griffin was involved in a verbal altercation with  former head coach Alvin Gentry, who is now the associate head coach for the Sacramento Kings.

One of the things some people don’t like about Griffin is that he sometimes comes off as arrogant, which rubs some people the wrong way, particularly coaches and players, as Griffin has never touched a basketball himself.

Gentry is one of those people and he didn’t take kindly to an alleged quote from Griffin that said he “gave Gentry all of the answers to the test but he still failed.” Griffin denied this report to Gentry, who reportedly yelled in response, “You must not have given Stan the answers to the test, either,” referring to former coach Stan Van Gundy, who was also fired by Griffin.

The two allegedly had to be separated, which is hilarious to me, as David Griffin might be able to talk his way out of a wet paper bag, but I’ll bet he couldn’t fight his way out of one.

This is an embarrassing look for Griffin, who is rapidly becoming enemy #1 around New Orleans. While I don’t blame Griffin for the injuries that are wrecking the New Orleans Pelicans, the way he has handled things lately has left a lot to be desired.

Injuries or not, this report could jeopardize David Griffin’s job and if the New Orleans Pelicans don’t start winning soon, he’s going to be the fall guy.
