The foot injury of Zion Williamson and Ja Morant’s MVP-like start has many fans around the NBA questioning if the New Orleans Pelicans made the right move drafting an injury-prone Williamson over Morant.

This year, Ja Morant is averaging over 26 points per game and just under 50 percent shooting. He is all over the highlight reels with high-flying dunks and beautiful layups. Zion on the other hand has been limited in practices and there is still no update on his recent scans which has fans and reporters very annoyed.

Zion Williamson vs. Ja Morant: Head to Head

Ja Morant has averaged 16 PPG and 8 APG when facing the New Orleans Pelicans. He is also 1-5 when playing the Pelicans in his career.

Zion Williamson has played only four career games against the Memphis Grizzlies. Ironically in the Pelicans’ one loss vs the Grizzlies in their last six games, Zion did not play. But, he is averaging 26 PPG and six RPG.

Did the New Orleans Pelicans make the right choice with Zion Williamson?

Looking at both players right now it’s easy to say the Pelicans should have drafted Ja Morant first overall because of how healthy he is and how well he is playing. Morant is having a great season and the Grizzlies can be a playoff team with Ja at the helm.

The Pelicans are the worst team in the NBA with their star player sitting on the sidelines watching his team lose game after game.  Williamson has had all the hype around him since high school and it has not changed since. Every game Williamson has played in he has performed above and beyond.  Even though Ja has been the healthier of the two, Williamson has the higher ceiling when he is in there.

To answer the question, did the New Orleans Pelicans miss by choosing Zion Williamson over Ja Morant? No, they did not, but the argument is getting closer.
