New Orleans Pelicans Thanksgiving evaluation: Too early to tell
These four guys have shown flashes at times but still haven’t been able to do it consistently. I am not ready to give up on any of these guys and there are signs of growth.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Kira Lewis Jr., Trey Murphy III, Willy Hernangomez
NAW has been inconsistent for the New Orleans Pelicans this season but has been much better since being moved to the bench, which may ultimately be his best chance to be a star in the NBA. NAW can score in bunches but has shot the ball poorly this season, especially from 3-point range.

Kira Lewis Jr. has come on of late and has done a much-better job of running the offense off the bench and scoring occasionally. I am still not sure what he can be in the NBA, but he is still just 20 and needs a lot more reps. Lewis Jr. has scored in double figures in 3-of-4 games and has been more aggressive with the ball.
Trey Murphy III hasn’t made much of an impact this season after having a big preseason, proving once again that those numbers are meaningless. He has upped his 3-point percentage to 36.9 but hasn’t been playing much lately, as he doesn’t offer much other than spot-up shooting.
Willy Hernangomez is a solid backup whose play has put Jaxson Hayes on the bench, possibly for good. I love Willy’s energy and he is just solid all around. He’s not spectacular but the Pelicans don’t need him to be.
If they wanted to explore the trade market, he is one guy who would have some value.
