The Pelicans and the play-in tournament

After losing two in a row, New Orleans has dropped to the 11th spot in the Western Conference, a half game behind the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Spurs are just a half game behind the Pelicans and the Kings are a half game behind them, so competition for that final spot should be fierce down the stretch.

The Kings made the big trade to acquire Domantas Sabonis, and have won two-in-a-row, so I do think they are a team to watch.

The Trail Blazers are getting outstanding play from Anfernee Simons and got a big game from Josh Hart last night, so they are looking to hang around until Damian Lillard gets back.

I still like the Pelicans’ chances, as it will take a few games to get rolling with CJ McCollum and there is still a chance that Zion will return, though we still haven’t had a recent update about his health.

It’s going to be a fight down the stretch and the play-in tournament seems to be achieving the stated goal of lessening the motivation to tank. This should be a fun ending to the season.
