New Orleans Pelicans: 5 questions for the offseason

#5: Will the Pelicans trade for a veteran upgrade?

One way the Pelicans could improve their roster and jettison some tricky contracts is to make a trade this offseason using their top-10 pick as bait.

I thew the name Jerami Grant out there, but that was just an example, as there are a number of bad teams with quality veterans who the Pelicans could use and possibly acquire in a trade.

The combination of Jaxson Hayes, Devonte’ Graham and that pick would be a pretty good package, especially for a team that was looking to shed a veteran contract or wanted to take a flyer on young talent.

The Pelicans are ready to compete for a title now as long as Zion Williamson is healthy, but grabbing another versatile forward would not only give them more roster depth but some insurance against another injury.

However, as I said before, this roster is about to get expensive, so trading away draft picks may not be a smart move for a team that will need to keep an influx of young and cheap talent to offset their big contracts.

If the Pels were going to trade a top-10 pick for veteran help, this would be the draft to do it, as it is not deep with star prospects and New Orleans still has plenty of more picks on the way.
