The New Orleans Pelicans already have a full roster and a 2022 NBA Draft pick on the way, so they may have to make some trades if they want to shake up their roster.

For the most part they are set, and should be contenders with Zion Williamson, as they were able to make the playoffs without him and have some assets to bolster the roster.

Malcolm Brogdon is one name you could see attached to the Pelicans, as the Pacers are reportedly shopping him after acquiring Tyrese Haliburton in a midseason trade.

Brogdon is a guy I have liked for the Pelicans in the past, as he is the type of versatile guard/wing who can cover any position on the perimeter on both sides of the ball.

His season was cut short by an injury, a common theme of his career, as Brogdon has missed a lot of games since his rookie season.

When healthy, he’s a guy who could slide into a number of lineups and give the Pelicans a boost of shooting, defense and size at the guard position.

He’s a fit if the price is right, so what would it take to get him?

New Orleans Pelicans: Trading for Malcolm Brogdon

Brogdon would give the Pelicans some insurance behind both CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram, a guy who can handle point guard duties or play off the ball on the wing.

He is coming off an Achilles injury, so the Pels would have to have assurances that he is healthy and will be ready to go. Availability is of utmost importance for the Pelicans, so they’d need to be confident that Brogdon was 100 percent.

If so, a trade of Devonte’ Graham, Larry Nance Jr. and a future pick might get it done. The Pelicans would be reluctant to part with Nance Jr. but he’s injury prone himself, so he would be a cost worth paying for guy like Brogdon who could really move the needle.

The Pelicans might also balk at giving up a first round pick, but they could send the Milwaukee pick in 2024, as they have two other picks in that draft.

The Pacers would be able to get out from Brogdon’s contract, clear some future cap space and grab a first round pick for their trouble.

The Pelicans could use some size and veteran depth at guard and Brogdon is an interesting potential target.
