Zion Williamson and the media

A lot of the talk around Zion leaving is his alleged desire to “play in a big market,” but has anyone ever asked him? Zion is a fairly soft spoken guy, who has shied away from being in the media spotlight for most of his young career.

What makes anyone think he’d be happy under the microscope of the New York media? Zion is from the south (a trait the Pelicans have been leaning into) and by his own account is very happy in New Orleans, where he can be a “pillar in the community” while still living the relatively low-key lifestyle that he seems to prefer. I don’t know the man, but does Zion strike you as the type of person who wants to live in Manhattan and deal with that media? The Pels’ media is tame in comparison when it comes to negativity.

Zion already has a massive shoe deal, is about to sign a max deal and is on a roster that is in a great situation, so what exactly do these “big markets” have to offer?

I don’t know how many different ways Zion Williamson can say that he wants to be in New Orleans, but until he signs the extension we are going to continue to get speculation.

It seems like a no-brainer for both sides, so expect Zion to ink his name to a new contract soon.
