What the Spurs want in a trade for Dejounte Murray

If the Spurs are going to trade Murray, they are looking for max value, and to be honest, they should.

When you factor in his age (25), All-Star production and salary ($16 and $17 million), he is a hot commodity and one teams would pay dearly to get.

According to Spurs Talk, here is the asking price for Murray:

"“San Antonio’s asking price for Murray is four first round draft picks with little to no protections. Alternatively, the Spurs want three minimally protected first rounders and two unprotected first round pick swaps.”"

Phew.

The New Orleans Pelicans are one of the few teams that has that type of draft capital to trade, as they still have picks coming from both the Lakers and the Bucks.

Since those picks aren’t likely to be great (unless the Lakers stink again next season), giving up four of them might be palatable, especially since the Pels could do it and still have their own picks in those years.

They could potentially lower the draft pick cost by offering up a young player like Jaxson Hayes, Trey Murphy III or Herbert Jones, who is the guy the Spurs would almost certainly want in the deal.

I think Jones would be a non-starter but if the New Orleans Pelicans could potentially get Murray for Hayes or Murphy III and a bunch of draft picks, should they do it?
