New Orleans Pelicans: 3 questions for Summer League

#2: Can EJ Liddell stake a claim for minutes?

EJ Liddell could end up being one of the steals of the draft, as he was expected to go in the first round and then inexplicably dropped to the Pelicans in the second round.

The Pels weren’t expecting him to be there, so happily drafted the versatile and skilled forward, who is going to use Summer League to try and prove he deserves minutes as a rookie.

Liddell’s arrival could affect Jaxson Hayes, who now has some competition for those minutes at the four and five. Liddell isn’t as tall but has the length to defend both spots, so it will be interesting to see if he gets some run at the five during Summer League.

Liddell has a chance to make the final roster if he can knock down 3-point shots as he did in college, defend up, block shots and grab defensive rebounds.

I also think he has some intangibles that Hayes does not, so he’ll be a guy to watch in Summer League and into training camp, as he’s a competitor and going to be gunning for some minutes off the bench.
