New Orleans Pelicans: Zion Williamson’s new roster

The guards

Before:

  • Lonzo Ball
  • Eric Bledsoe
  • Nickeil Alexander-Walker
  • JJ Redick
  • Kira Lewis Jr.

Now:

  • CJ McCollum
  • Devonte’ Graham
  • Jose Alvarado
  • Dyson Daniels
  • Kira Lewis Jr.

Other than Kira Lewis Jr. who was a rookie the last time Zion played, the entire guard unit has been changed, with CJ McCollum replacing Lonzo Ball at the top.

Lonzo is a very good player on both ends, but he can’t stay healthy and I don’t think anyone would argue that he is a better player than CJ McCollum, though he is younger.

Bledsoe, NAW and Redick gave the Pelicans little, as Bledsoe was checked out, NAW was still way to erratic and Redick was washed.

Zion will be playing with much better defenders in Jose Alvarado and Dyson Daniels and even though Devonte’ Graham has not been great, he’ll certainly offer more than Eric Bledsoe did.

This group is much more versatile and should be an upgrade over what Williamson had the last time he suited up for the Pels.
