Pelicans game tonight: Pelicans vs Pistons odds, injury report, predictions, TV channel for Oct. 7
The New Orleans Pelicans got their season started the right way with an exciting win over the Chicago Bulls and just about everyone looked good.
Zion Williamson dominated, scoring 13 effortless points in 15 minutes and looked great doing it. Herb Jones showed continued offensive improvement, the bench was fantastic and the Pels looked in midseason form on the offensive end at times.
There were even a few pleasant surprises, as Jaxson Hayes put on a show at both ends, Devonte’ Graham hit some shots and rookie Dyson Daniels looked like a guy whose defense is going to have him in the rotation right away.
We should see more of the same tonight against the Detroit Pistons as New Orleans tries to go 2-0 to start the preseason. Here is everything you need to know.
New Orleans Pelicans vs Detroit Pistons: Odds, Spread, Over/Under
According to FanDuel, the Pelicans are six point favorites at home against the Detroit Pistons, a line that would likely be much higher if this weren’t in the more unpredictable preseason.
The money lines are set at -250 for New Orleans and +198 for Detroit and there aren’t any points totals or over/unders at this time.
Pelicans injury report
Kira Lewis Jr. will be out for the foreseeable future and CJ McCollum, Brandon Ingram, Trey Murphy III and Herb Jones are all listed as day-to-day. Ingram didn’t practice yesterday, so will probably sit again, while TMIII is more likely to get his first action.
Jones is new on the list and apparently suffered a minor rib injury in practice. The Pelicans are obviously going to be very cautious and try to get into the season 100 percent healthy. There isn’t a lot to gain for the starters against a bad Pistons team, so we’ll likely get a healthy dose of the bench again tonight.
New Orleans Pelicans vs Detroit Pistons: Prediction
After having seen both of these two teams play their first preseason games, I’d be shocked if the Pelicans didn’t win this one running away even if they use their bench for most of the game.
New Orleans has a lot more quality depth than Detroit, and the Pistons also have no answer for the Pels on the inside, so Zion and Jonas Valanciunas should feast for the short time they are in there.
One interesting thing to watch is how the Pels handle guard Jaden Ivey, who is one of the quicker players in the league. New Orleans has a huge starting lineup when they are all playing and how they handle quicker guards is going to be something to watch all season.
New Orleans 115, Detroit 100
