Pelicans game tonight: Pelicans vs Hawks odds, Zion injury update, predictions, TV channel for Oct. 14
The New Orleans Pelicans will complete their preseason schedule tonight against the Atlanta Hawks at home hoping to take a win into the regular season.
The Pelicans have looked good in preseason so far and have gotten contributions from just about everyone, but the big story once again is injuries, as Brandon Ingram hasn’t played yet and Zion Williamson left the last game with ankle soreness after rolling his ankle on a drive.
Zion says he’s fine, but fans can’t help to be concerned given his history, so it would be nice to see him back in there tonight.
Ingram says he wants to play and get the starting five to get some run together before the games get real, but we’ll have to wait until game time to see if the Pelicans have their full complement of players in the starting lineup.
New Orleans Pelicans vs Atlanta Hawks: Odds and Spread
According to FanDuel, the Pelicans are two point underdogs at home tonight against the Hawks. Usually the home team is given a couple of extra points, so the fact that the Hawks are favored is a pretty good indication that the books don’t think Zion and BI are going to play.
The money lines are set at +106 for New Orleans and -130 for Atlanta. The Hawks played their regulars full-season minutes in their last preseason game, a loss to the Cavaliers, so it will be interesting to see if they hold them back in this one or continue to ramp it up.
Either way, I like the Pelicans at home, as they should have a home court advantage and will have a lot of guys playing hard to try and earn minutes.
Zion Williamson injury update
Zion is listed as day-to-day and is questionable for tonight’s game against the Hawks. If I had to guess, I’d say the Pels will probably be cautious with Zion and sit him tonight, and if he does play, it will probably be limited to a few minutes to start the game.
Brandon Ingram, Dyson Daniels and Larry Nance Jr. are also listed as questionable for tonight and Jaxson Hayes and Kira Lewis Jr. will definitely be out.
New Orleans Pelicans vs Atlanta Hawks: Prediction
One thing I loved about the last game against the Heat is that the Pels didn’t stop playing hard, even after Zion had to leave the game. Their backups kept hustling and making plays and got them back into it after they went down big early.
I think we’ll see that same spirit tonight even if New Orleans doesn’t have some of their regulars and that the Pels will get a win at home to take even more positive momentum into the regular season.
New Orleans 108, Atlanta 100
