New Orleans Pelicans that should be cut loose: 1. Jonas Valanciunas

Valanciunas came to New Orleans in a three-team trade in 2021. They wanted a more versatile big man to replace Steven Adams, and Valanciunas played over 30 minutes per game as the Pelicans made the playoffs in 2022. This season, his minutes and production dipped. He averaged just 24.9 minutes per game as he put up 14.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks.

The partnership appears to have run its course. If the New Orleans Pelicans want to further upgrade their roster, point guard and center appear to be the two areas of need. They already have three young point guards that are eager to play more, so replacing Valanciunas is the most likely solution.

Valanciunas will have plenty of trade value. The 6’11 big man is an elite rebounder that can space the floor and score 15 points per game. He is a top-10 center in the NBA and is often underrated. The Pelicans could acquire an upgrade, but it won’t be easy.

The New Orleans Pelicans want to improve their roster this offseason, but what moves can they make? Will Zion Williamson be healthy next season? Can they jump back into the playoffs? Stay tuned to find out.
