New Orleans Pelicans summer league schedule announced
By Mat Issa
Now that the 2023 NBA Draft is behind us, the next big thing to look out for is NBA Summer League. This year, the summer league will take place from July 7th to July 17th at its usual venue – Las Vegas, Nevada.
We’ve known that information above for quite some time now (it’s how I booked my flight to summer league!). What we didn’t know (until Friday) is what days we would get to see our New Orleans Pelicans play basketball. But now, the cat is out of the bag. Here is their schedule:
The Pelicans will play one game every other day from July 7th to July 13th. They will play the Minnesota Timberwolves on July 7th at 3:30 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST). They will play the Golden State Warriors at 9:00 PM EST. They will play the Phoenix Suns on July 11th at 7:00 PM EST. And they will play the Charlotte Hornets at 6:30 PM EST.
As a reminder to newer fans, you won’t see established stars like Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, and CJ McCollum suiting up in summer league. But this does offer an opportunity to get our first real look at the newbies like Jordan Hawkins and Landers Nolley II.
Also participating in summer league this year for the Pelicans will be undrafted signees Liam Robbins (from Vanderbilt) and Tevian Jones (from Southern Utah). According to ESPN’s best undrafted players list, Robbins ranked 16th among undrafted players, Nolley ranked 23rd, and Jones ranked 30th.
The “playoffs” for summer league will be held from July 15th through July 17th, with the semifinals taking place on July 16th and the finals taking place on July 17th.
For all those fans that are thinking about tuning out the festivities, remember that the summer league can be a forecast of what is to come. In 2021, the Pelicans went a perfect 5-0 in the summer league with a roster that featured a handful of players that are currently leaving their imprint on the NBA team. Players like Herbert Jones, Naji Marshall, Trey Murphy III, and Jose Alvarado were all tearing it up in summer league before making their mark in the NBA.
So yeah, make sure you are watching!
