Zion Williamson

The Pelicans and Williamson seem to be in a good place right now. However, you can make a strong argument that wasn’t the case just a few weeks ago. In fact, heading into the 2023 NBA Draft, the trade whispers surrounding Williamson were quite loud. And there were many around the league that were expecting Williamson to be traded on draft night or in the days leading up to it. In the end, of course, Williamson wasn’t moved. Since then, it seems as if the Pelicans have moved off that stance.

All that can be true, but if the Pelicans were at least open to the idea of trading Williamson before, you’d have to think that if the right deal comes around, they would be open to it again. That’s why I believe there’s at least a small chance that Williamson could be moved before the start of the season.

I don’t believe it’s likely, but it can’t be completely off the table, no matter what the Pelicans may say.

Williamson has a chance to be a franchise player; that was the expectation when the Pelicans drafted him No. 1 overall during the 2019 NBA Draft. Although, he has yet to consistently prove that through the first few years of his career. And until he does, there will continue to be questions about his future in New Orleans.
