The start of the highly-anticipated 2023-24 NBA Season is getting closer and closer. Do you know how we know that? The New Orleans Pelicans have revealed their new Statement Edition Jerseys for the upcoming season, which will be available in stores on August 1st. Here is what the new uniforms look like:

As the name reads, this iteration of the team’s statement jerseys is their Crescent City uniforms. For those who aren’t super geographically attuned, New Orleans is called the Crescent City. The reason for that is that the Mississippi River flows through the city in a crescent shape (like this).  Here is what Pelicans Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer Ben Hales had to say about the new release.

"“The Pelicans re-designed Statement Edition uniforms bring a vintage feel that represents our young franchise and gives a unique take on the red uniform that continues to complement our navy and white uniforms,” said Hales. “The Pelicans 2023-24 Statement Edition uniform honors our home, the Crescent City.”"

I’m not the best person to ask about this because I’ve never met a professional sports team jersey that I couldn’t appreciate (I mean it, I like all of them!). But these new Crescent City uniforms are very sweet.

They also fit the vibes of the franchise, as Hale said. The franchise itself is very young (they are entering their 22nd season), and they have a ton of young players (like Zion Williamson, Trey Murphy III, Herbert Jones, Dyson Daniels, Jordan Hawkins, etc.).

It is ultra-fitting that Jose Alvarado is the one modeling these new uniforms for their reveal. He isn’t the team’s best player (that’s Williamson). But he embodies so much of the grit and determination that the Crescent City stands for.

While we currently don’t know the Pelicans’ schedule for next season, we do know that regular season play begins on October 24th (a little less than three months from today).

Next. 5 Pelicans most likely to be traded. dark
