Would the New Orleans Pelicans accept this trade?

The Pelicans reportedly want to upgrade from Jonas Valanciunas to someone that can protect the rim and offers mobility. Jarrett Allen fits that bill. He is not the most mobile center, but the 6’11 big man can switch onto the perimeter if need be. He is strong roll man that offers underrated defense.

It is a hefty price, especially after inking Herb Jones to a new four-year $53.8 million contract this offseason. The Pelicans have depth and plenty of young talent. This is a chance to upgrade at the five by just giving up one additional rotation piece. New Orleans keeps their draft capital and the option to make a future blockbuster.

Isaac Okoro is still young and gives New Orleans someone else they can develop. It is a downgrade from Jones, but adding another high draft pick creates a bit of upside.

Upgrading at the five is going to cost more than Jonas Valanciunas. This trade will have to wait until after Jan. 15, but it certainly offers the Pelicans a chance to add something they desire without breaking the bank.

Grade: B+
