On Monday, the New Orleans Pelicans had their Media Day for the 2023-24 season. For those of you who don’t know, a team’s media day is akin to the first day of school. Everyone is in a good mood, old friends are reunited, and the possibilities for what could happen are endless.

Media day is also normally filled with a bunch of great tidbits, and this year was no different. So, without further ado, here are four takeaways from Pelicans Media Day.

1. Zion Williamson is taking his health and fitness to a new level.

Ever since the day he was drafted by the Pelicans, Zion Williamson, and his health have been the main topic of discussion for the team.

That was especially the case this offseason. After watching another season go down the drain because of Williamson’s health, the front office began dangling Williamson’s name in trade talks. They ultimately settled on keeping him. But it appears that this season will be this core’s last chance to get it together.

To his credit, Williamson publicly stated this offseason that he was taking his health more seriously than he ever had before, and he continued to reiterate this sentiment at media day.

In four years in the NBA, Williamson has never played more than 61 games. But he appears ready to not only surpass that mark but take the league by storm, even telling the media that he spent the summer working on being “unguardable.” Fingers crossed all of his hard work pays off.
