8. Anthony Davis – 24.9% of the league salary cap (2018-19)

How ironic, the two most highly-touted Pelicans’ draft picks ever in the same slide. You just can’t make this stuff up. Anyway, it is kind of surprising that Anthony Davis (a player with a strong case as the best player in franchise history) is only eighth on this list.

Despite not being able to provide him with a great supporting cast, you can’t say we didn’t treat him well financially. During his final season with the team, he made about 25.4 million dollars, which was 24.9% of the league salary cap maximum in 2018-19 (101.869 million).

7. Zion Williamson – 25.0% of the league salary cap (2023-24)

Yes, we know this season hasn’t technically happened. But, barring some bizarre set of circumstances, Williamson will be on their books for the 2023-24 season for the seventh-highest percentage of the league salary cap maximum in franchise history. And spoiler alert: this isn’t the last time we will see someone on this current iteration of the team on this list. Like we said, our list, our rules!

Anyway, this year Williamson will eat up over 34 million dollars, which will make up 25% of the league salary cap maximum (136.021 million). Fun fact: if we were to make this list next season, Williamson’s career-high in this measure would be 25.9%, which would have put him at sixth place on this list.
