1. Zion Williamson

After missing the majority of last season, the hope heading into 2023-24 for Zion Williamson largely revolved around remaining healthy. Through the first few weeks of the season, Zion has been on the floor.

While that’s been the case, Zion has still managed to look a little off. He hasn’t looked entirely comfortable in head coach Willie Green’s altered offense. So much so that you can argue that Zion has been a bit disappointing to start the season.

Zion is on pace to average his fewest points per game while having the least efficient season of his career to date. Zion is shooting just 52 percent shooting from the field. Considering that he shot 61 percent from the field overall in each of the last two seasons, it’s easy to see why there has been a drop in his overall counting stats this season.

But what has been most disappointing about Zion has been his recent comments. The way Zion has spoken to reporters recently, it seems like he’s unhappy or getting to the point where he may become disgruntled. Zion said he’s “trying to buy in” and is “trusting the process” recently. I’m not sure how reassuring those comments are for the Pelicans.

All in all, something feels off with Zion and that has been extended to the Pelicans as a whole through the first few weeks of the season. Maybe they’re able to turn things around when they get healthier, but it’s certainly something to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.
