Breaking down a Dejounte Murray to Pelicans deal

The Hawks shockingly won the draft lottery, despite having just a three percent chance at getting the top selection. It could help them turn things around after missing the playoffs. The Dejounte Murray trade has not gone as planned, and Atlanta is about to be paying two centers significant money. The Hawks must make some trades this summer.

New Orleans may be the ideal trade partner. They need a starting center and point guard. Atlanta could get a star wing to pair with Trey Young. Both teams may be better positioned for success after this hypothetical Bleacher Report trade.

Murray to NOP

The Hawks get an All-Star, a capable reserve big man, and a first-round draft pick for Murray and Capela. They must split up their backcourt and will have their starting center on the trade block as he enters the final year of his deal. Atlanta would certainly have interest in this move as BI figures to be one of the best available wings on the trade market this offseason.

Do the Pelicans make this deal? It checks two crucial boxes but would have to be the first in a series of transactions if they want to be serious contenders to win the loaded Western Conference.
