Pelicans' team social media account roasts analyst's ridiculous Zion comments
By Matt Alquiza
Stephen A. Smith is known more for his hot takes than his intellectual basketball mind. If you want solid basketball analysis, there are better places to go than First Take. If you desire copious words about a player that say nothing about their basketball skills, Stephen A's morning show is the place for you.
On Friday morning, First Take discussed which players are under the most pressure as we come down the stretch of the 2023-24 NBA season. Stephen A had this to say about star forward Zion Williamson.
"It's not about his game, it's about how many burgers he's eating. And whether or not he is going to be in shape or keep eating McDonald's... That's what he has to prove."
Williamson, a two-time All-Star, is playing some of the best basketball of his career. In a stretch where New Orleans has won four of five games, Zion is averaging 25.6 points, 7.2 assists, and 5.2 rebounds. His combination of rim pressure and playmaking are turning the fifth-year veteran into the matchup nightmare he was billed to be on draft night in 2019.
People who watch basketball know that, but Stephen A. Smith still feels the need to tear down Zion for clicks sake.
Outrage filled the internet this morning following the face of ESPN's comments, but the Pelicans social media accounts had the best response to the inane comments. Check it out below.
Terrific job responding to comments about the team's franchise player that carry little to no weight. The best social media posts are ones that don't take themselves too seriously, and the Pelicans Twitter admin nailed it with this one. Kudos to whoever hits send on the team account's tweets.
