New Orleans Pelicans: Rajon Rondo gets mentioned in Ray Allen’s Book
By Joshua Lea
The New Orleans Pelicans point guard is the subject of some developing controversy with his former team.
The New Orleans Pelicans and Rajon Rondo met each other at just the right time. Rondo has seamlessly become apart of the Pelicans culture. He is playing with two budding stars in the NBA in Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins. All three players hail from Kentucky and clearly have a good relationship.
However, with players like Rondo, the past can sometimes make it’s way to the present. Rondo was the floor general for the original big three in Boston. That three included Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen. None of those three are currently active in the NBA. Pierce is a studio analyst for the NBA on ESPN with Michele Beedle and Jalen Rose. Garnett is also a studio analyst for TNT’s side hustle show Area 51.
Then, there’s Allen, who seems to have lost a few screws since his NBA days. While the rest of that Celtic team has moved on from those days, Allen seems to relive it constantly. So much so, he’s preparing to release a book entitled, “From The Outside: My Journey Through Life and the Game I Love.”
Now, I would expect for this book to have some great insight on his playing days with Seattle, Milwaukee, Boston, Miami and transition to his role in the movie, “He Got Game”. However, there are rumors surrounding the notion that Allen mentions Rondo several times in the book as the two played together for five seasons in Boston.
According to NBA.com’s media reports. The book is going to slam Rondo, this isn’t a big surprise. Although, if you recall February 11th, when the Celtics held Pierce’s career celebration and jersey retirement, Rondo was there and Allen was not. Furthermore, Allen took to Instagram and posted a picture of him playing golf with George Lopez on the day of the Pierce retirement.

Make of that what you will, social media posts speak louder than words. What’s interesting about this whole ordeal is the only one who seems salty about the Celtics team is Ray Allen. I get writing a book about your career and life, I would too. However, depending on what you write is going to become the perception of what players think about you.
If this book is just jab after jab of the Celtics team and the way Rondo handled being the floor general to those egos, it’s not going to look good for Allen. In fact, some might even say he’s snitching by writing this “tell-all” book. However, no one can say for sure unless it’s actually read.
Here’s the deal, I personally love Rondo’s attitude and his approach to the game. When you’re the young gun in a locker room with Garnett, Allen, Pierce, Kendrick Perkins, and Doc Rivers, you have to be bold. You can’t act as if they are bigger than you. Rondo mastered the art of playing with superstars early in his NBA career. His veteran leadership is the reason he’s fitting in with the New Orleans Pelicans.

When asked about his thoughts on Ray Allen’s book Rondo shrugged it off and said something to the effect of “He just wants attention, I’ve always been who I am.” This is a true statement, and sometimes being yourself is the reason why you’re viewed differently. It’s the same reason Eminem was so successful in hip-hop. Eminem wasn’t trying to be like everyone else. He rapped about the trailer park and people loved it.
Rondo is the last of a rare breed in the NBA, the unapologetic, nonconformist, silent type. He could have just as easily fed the beast with this Allen book. He could have said, “Well when we played, he did this.” But, he didn’t, He isn’t buying into the noise and is trying to stay out of it. This is what so many players in this league no longer do.

You can bet that Davis and Cousins all know how good Rondo is at keeping internal locker room stuff out of the public eye. For Allen to bring it light 10 years following their NBA Championship run is questionable. The only thing I want to know is if Rondo will read the book or not.
