Lonzo Ball was arguably the gem of the Anthony Davis trade haul. Cafe du Monde loyalist may claim Josh Hart, and the rest will say Brandon Ingram. Ball, the former number two pick in 2017 came into the NBA with an enormous amount of pressure and hype behind him after a stellar career at UCLA.

Most of the hype came from his infamously loud father Lavar Ball saying things like Lonzo is already better than Steph Curry. Regardless of how much his father talks, Lonzo does possess a great flow for getting teammates open and where they need to be with stellar court vision with a current career 6.4 assists per game.

Now a huge knock on Lonzo’s game is his offense. His outside shot looks technically broken and his midrange game is subpar for the NBA level. It is hard to be a starting point guard long term in the NBA and hold a 38% career field goal percentage and a staggering 43.7% at the free throw line.

Now Lonzo will be turning 22 after the season starts, he has time to grow his offensive game as he grows overall as a player and into Alvin Gentry’s system. Lonzo Ball will be looked at more as a facilitator for the offense and a major defensive cog alongside All-Defensive guard Jrue Holiday. Ball has a career 1.6 steals per game in his 2 seasons.

Health will be a huge factor in how effective he will be in the years to come in the Big Easy only playing in 99 of 164 total games he has been eligible to play. If Ball’s health is better going into the 2019-20 NBA season, we could finally see the breakout year that his fans have been waiting for.
