Devin Vassell’s Strengths

Vassell fits the profile of what the New Orleans Pelicans and most of the NBA are looking for: a long guard/wing who can shoot and play defense.

A 6-foot-6, Vassell has the size to guard both small forwards and shooting guards, which should give him a shot at a long NBA career.

Vassell was one of the reasons Florida State was ranked 4th in the ACC in defense, as he was averaging 1.4 steals and one block per game.

His scoring came on late in the season, and Vassell finished averaging 12.7 points per game on 41.5 percent from 3-point range.

Vassell was taking 3.5 per game from behind the arc, not a high volume, but enough to see he can shoot it.

Vassell is also a plus rebounder for his position, grabbing 5.1 per game, which should translate well to the next level.

Vassell improved in all areas of his game once becoming the full-time starter in his sophomore season, enough for 2nd team All-ACC honors and third place for Most Improved Player in the conference.

If Vassell continues to refine his offensive game, he has a chance to be the best wing in a draft that is light on talent at his position.

The New Orleans Pelicans are looking for a guy who fits Vassell’s profile of a 3-and-D wing, but he comes with a few weaknesses as well.
