New Orleans Pelicans: CBS says Nesmith, Stewart are Best Fits
We love guys who can shoot, especially with Zion taking up most of the lane.
One such player is Aaron Nesmith, the sharpshooter out of Vanderbilt, who might be the best college shooter in the NCAA.
We already profiled Nesmith as a possible pick for the New Orleans Pelicans, though he is one player who might rocket into the top-ten once the draft finally happens.
Shooting is a premium skill in the modern NBA, so teams might jump at the chance to get a guy whose size and accuracy profile him as one of the top shooters in the draft.
Here’s what CBS had to say:
"“New Orleans’ main objective right now should be to surround Zion Williamson with shooters. Thus, Vanderbilt’s Aaron Nesmith should be atop the list. He rated last season in the 99th percentile as a spot-up shooter and figures to be a plug-and-play shooter on the wing.”"
The New Orleans Pelicans definitely do need to surround Zion Williamson with shooters, especially with J.J. Redick on the last year of his contract.
Nesmith can certainly shoot, as he averaged a scorching 52.2 percent from 3-point range in limited action this season for Vandy.
At 6-foot-6 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, Nesmith could evolve into a good perimeter defender, though he has not shown much at that end thus far.
The New Orleans Pelicans do need shooting, but they also need size on the wing, so they could use this pick to take someone like Nesmith or a more defensive-minded player to cover some of their defensive deficiencies.
