New Orleans Pelicans 2009 Lottery Re-Draft: Where does Holiday Go Now?
Griffin Stays Home, Holiday Moves Up
The top-four of this draft was very strong, but almost every team would have been better off if they had just chosen a different guy.
The Thunder did well to get Harden in the original draft, but would have loved to get a shot at hometown hero Griffin.
Considering that Harden was jettisoned in a trade later anyway, this probably would have been better for everyone.
The pairing of Kevin Durant and Griffin would have been one for the ages. The Oklahoma City Thunder amassed so much talent during this era that they are always on lists of “what-ifs.”
The Sacramento Kings took Tyreke Evans with this pick, and though the streaky scorer had a few good seasons for the Kings, they’d take Holiday if they could do it again.
Holiday has developed into a great two-way guard for the New Orleans Pelicans and would have been the perfect guy to kick off the perpetual rebuild in Sacramento.
As the New Orleans Pelicans have discovered, Holiday is an easy player to build around, as he can do a bit of everything and makes everyone around him better.
Holiday was eventually taken 17th by the Sixers, which is laughable considering Thabeet, Flynn and several other busts were off the board.
This was a point guard heavy draft and Holiday has proven to be the second best point guard in it. Though Holiday should have went much higher, we are glad how it worked out for the New Orleans Pelicans.
