Luckily for the Pelicans, the lineup they used most frequently also happened to be their best.

If you’re not familiar, this is the New Orleans Pelicans starting lineup and at 230 minutes, the one they used the most so far in the 2019-20 season.

The Pelicans have the best starting lineup in the NBA, which reveals exactly what they need to work on in the offseason, which is the bench.

The Pelicans gave up way too many big leads and had a hard time putting teams away, largely because their bench was inconsistent.

With an over-reliance on the 3-point shot, the Pelicans’ bench usually ran hot or cold, a fact that became obvious after Redick’s injury when suddenly Melli and Hart couldn’t hit a shot.

Favors may not be back, but if Hayes can continue to improve, it might not matter, especially if the Pelicans can find a defensive minded veteran center in a trade or free agency.

This lineup should excite Pelicans fans, as we’ll be seeing some version of it for the next several years.

The Pelicans have the right balance of offense and defense to blow teams off the floor with their starters, but the bench still needs work.
