The number one pick in the 2020 NBA Draft is probably up for sale, but should the New Orleans Pelicans be buyers? We looked at the pros and cons.

The New Orleans Pelicans are in the enviable position of being able to do whatever they want in the draft.

With a ton of young talent and draft assets, the Pelicans can try to plug holes, swing for the fences, or package some of that capital in a trade.

They could even use those assets to move up in the draft.

The 2020 NBA Draft will be the wildest in memory, as the cancellation of conference tournaments and March Madness has limited scouting, creating more unknowns than ever before.

Add this to the fact that most experts consider this to be a fairly weak draft, and this may not be the year that you want the number one pick.

Ask Golden State, who has already made it clear that they are willing to deal the number one pick if they win the NBA Draft Lottery.

According to Monte Poole of NBC Sports, Warriors’ President Bob Meyers said Golden State would listen to offers if they do in fact win the number one pick.

It makes sense for Golden State, who already has a talented core of veterans and may want to win now rather than add a rookie who may not even get off the bench.

If Golden State were to win the lottery and offer the pick in trade, there would certainly be teams calling. Detroit and New York have already expressed interest in LaMelo Ball and know that it may take the number one pick to get him.

Teams will call, possibly even the New Orleans Pelicans, who have more assets to offer than just about anyone in the NBA.

Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of the Pelicans trading for the number one pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
