The New Orleans Pelicans and Sacramento Kings are poised to be the next great rivalry in the NBA and it will start at NBA Disney.
The New Orleans Pelicans and Sacramento Kings have a lot in common, including the fact that neither has won much of anything.
The Kings did have an extended run of making the playoffs, but that started all the way back in 1998 before most of their current team was even born. They haven’t sniffed the playoffs since that streak ended in 2006.
As for the New Orleans Pelicans, well, they’ve never had any extended success, having never made the playoffs more than two years in a row.
That could all be about to change.
The Pelicans and Kings are two of the most exciting up and coming teams in the NBA, which will be on full display when the two face off twice when the season re-starts in Orlando.
The two teams have only played once this season, a two point victory for the New Orleans Pelicans in which neither team was at full strength.
Fans were denied the second meeting, as the game was postponed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. It was a much-hyped game with playoff implications for both teams, as they are tied, 3.5 games behind the Memphis Grizzlies for the 8th seed in the west.
With rookies Zion Williamson and Ja Morant getting most of the spotlight, the Kings are often left out of the conversation when it comes to budding rivalries in the Western Conference.
But people who overlook the Kings are missing out, as they are an exciting young team in their own right and eager to prove they belong in the playoff conversation.
The Grizzlies and Pelicans get most of the hype, but it is the Sacramento Kings who have a chance to be the Pelicans’ biggest rival.
