Key Statistics in New Orleans Pelicans’ win over Memphis: Turnovers

15 Turnovers for 15 Points

The Pelicans had “only” 15 turnovers against the Grizzlies, which still isn’t great, but is below their season average and far fewer than they had in the first two games.

They turned the ball over 21 times against Utah and 18 against the Clippers, and both led to points.

The 18 turnovers against LA led to 34 points, which was one of many reasons the Pelicans got blown out.

Last night, they were able to limit the Grizzlies to just 15 points off turnovers, a sign that they were playing with more energy and getting back on defense even when they turned it over.

The Pelicans limited the “what in the world?!?” turnovers, though Lonzo Ball coughed it up again trying to thread the needle to Derrick Favors who had three defenders around him in the lane.

Lonzo seems to have at least one or two of these types of passes per game. Even if Favors catches that ball, he isn’t going to do much with it, so there is no reason to try and throw a very difficult pass to get him the ball.

This has clearly been a point of emphasis for the Pelicans and they did a much better job last night limiting their turnovers and the damage done by them.
