Not every coach is a good fit for the New Orleans Pelicans.

The New Orleans Pelicans will cast a wide net in their search for a new head coach, but there are a few guys they should avoid.

They need someone who has a history of developing talent, a tactician who can teach the X’s and O’s to a young group and someone who has the players’ respect.

We’ve profiled a lot of coaches at Pelican Debrief, and to be honest, there are a lot of good candidates.

It seems like every time I write one I end up changing my mind about who would be the best choice for the New Orleans Pelicans. I feel your pain, Dang Lin-Wang:

What hasn’t changed is the list of candidates I hope the Pelicans do not hire, people who for one reason or another are not good fits with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Let’s take a look at three candidates the Pelicans shouldn’t go anywhere near.

Jason Kidd

We profiled the pros and cons of Jason Kidd right away, as his was one of the first names to surface in the rumor mill.

There are some things to like about Kidd, especially the idea of him working with Lonzo Ball, but how many chances is one man going to get?

Kidd beats up his wife, second chance!  He gets a DUI, third chance! He starts a front office coup in Brooklyn while losing with a loaded team, fourth chance! He can’t win with a team with Giannis Antetokounmpo on it, fifth chance!

I’ve seen enough of Jason Kidd to know that his sixth chance should not be with the Pelicans. He does have some history of developing young talent, but also has a history of squandering it.

Some players like him, others really don’t and Kidd has burned bridges every place he’s been.

Kidd has too much baggage and too many red flags to lead this young team, and the Pelicans should stay away.
